Unboxing a new plant should feel like a breath of fresh air — and it will — but sometimes your leafy friend needs a moment to bounce back from the journey. A bent leaf here, a broken branch there… totally normal, and nothing to stress about.
Travel Isn’t Easy — Even for Plants
Let’s be real: shipping a live plant is kind of like putting your grandma in the overhead bin and hoping for the best.
No matter how carefully we pack them, your plant is still going on a bumpy ride. From greenhouse to doorstep, it experiences changes in temperature, light, and motion. It’s basically a cross-country road trip in a cardboard box. And just like us after a long journey, your plant might look a little rumpled when it arrives.
Some Plants Are Just Naturally Dramatic
Every plant has its personality, and some handle travel better than others.
- The Money Tree, for example, tends to suffer a few bumps and bruises along the way — it’s not uncommon to see a broken branch or two. But don’t worry: it’s purely cosmetic, and the plant will recover with time.
- If your Schefflera looks like it threw half its leaves in protest, you’re not alone. These guys are notorious for dropping leaves when they’re stressed — but don’t panic! It’s their way of adjusting to the changes, and with a little patience, they’ll rebound and push out fresh new growth.
- The Peace Lily is the ultimate drama queen. A slight change in environment, and it might flop its leaves in protest. But give it a drink, a bit of time to settle, and it will reward you with that signature lush, upright look (and maybe even a bloom!).
The good news: these signs of travel stress are normal, and they’re temporary.
Plants Bounce Back — Fast
Your new plant just needs a little time to settle in. Here’s how you can help it recover from its journey:
- Gently clean up any loose soil or fallen leaves.
- Give it a stable home with bright, indirect light.
- Hold off on fertilizing right away — let it acclimate first.
- Water according to its needs, not its appearance.
A few days of TLC, and you’ll start to see your plant perk up. New growth is a sure sign it’s feeling at home!
